It seems like forever since we’ve been to a concert! Well, it sort of has and shouldn’t have been, but due to the Linkin Park fiasco, we haven’t been to a concert since last fall.
So last night Shane and myself and two of our friends - who were very brave because they knew nothing about the band - went to go see I Hate Kate at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. What a great venue this is. It’s really small, but I was surprised at how great the sound was in there.
Two bands played before I Hate Kate. The first one was ATO 5. Not bad. It’s hard when you aren’t familiar with any of their music. But overall, we thought they were pretty good.
The next band that opened was The Frequent Sea. I think that’s a pretty clever name. Not bad either. They had a rough start at first getting the sound right, but really hit a great stride.
But let’s face - everyone was there to see I Hate Kate. I was blown away really. I have their album, Embrace the Curse, and I listen to it a lot. There is always that fear that seeing a band live will be a big let down. But they sounded just as great as they do on their album. They haven’t hit it big nationally, but really feel it’s only a matter of time. Their music is catchy, they have a great stage presence and great interaction with the crowd. Just a lot of fun! They are polished. And while the other two bands were good, these guys were a whole different level. I really wish them a lot of success! We had a blast.
