I’m not crazy. Halloween isn’t that far off and we need to start planning.Garage set up

We’ve already got friends asking us what the theme this year will be. Oh the pressure!

Last year the display in our garage was a mad scientist lab. The year before it was a haunted mine shaft. This year….we don’t know yet, but we need to come up with something.

Halloween has slowly become bigger and bigger each year. We started out just carving pumpkins with the intricate detail. A few decorations here and there. How it blew up into a full blown graveyard and garage scene I’m not sure. My husband’s birthday is on Halloween, and our son’s birthday is two days before. So it’s become an event to say the least.

Halloween Graveyard We now have children in the neighborhood who start asking us in July what we are going to do. Of course things are kept top secret. We are know as the “Halloween House”.

We usually start building new props and tombstones in August. Pretty much everything you see in our graveyard is hand made. Down to every last tombstone…….Halloween headstones

We have special lighting, a sound system that pumps down into the graveyard, and of course, fog - lots of fog.

The scary part is, is that what you see on the outside of the house is only the half of it. The inside is fully decorated too. I have a voodoo bathroom that I create down to the last detail. Everyone refuses to use it during our party.

While we generally have a party the Saturday night before Halloween, my favorite time is Halloween night. Neighbors we rarely see like to gather in our Shane & I in graveyardgarage and hang out. We serve hot apple cider to all the trick-or-treaters, and of course, give out good candy. You can’t have the setup we do and give out crappy candy - or what I call the “filler” candy.

So the thought process has begun. Stayed tuned and I’ll keep you updated. We have also started another website, Haunting Your Yard, that includes information on how we build a lot of our props. If you are wanting to do something different for Halloween decorating other than the stuff you can buy at your local store, we can give you some great ideas.

And if you’re ever in Colorado for Halloween…..come check us out.

It’s nice to see a fellow Halloween enthusiast already stressing about the holiday that is still so far away. My wife and I have been throwing around themes since January. I think we’ve finally settled on a twisted fairytale theme, but coming up with the decor has proven to be a bit harder.
