Once again the Vans Warped Tour is coming to Denver at Invesco Field at Mile High. If you have never been it is quite an experience but you definitely need to be prepared if you want to get the most out of your day.

This year it is taking place on June 29. Earlier than last year but still hot when you are on black pavement all day. The set up is multiple stages in the parking lot of Invesco Field. Different stages will have different bands playing at the same time.

The list of bands playing is long and you’ll want to check out the ones your aren’t familiar with ahead of time so you have a plan of which ones you want to hit once you get there. For the next couple of months I’ll be posting my opinions on who I like and who I don’t - not that anyone will care!

You’ll want to get there early to get in line. The line to get in is long due to security. We missed some bands we really wanted to see last year because by the time we got in, they were done. The bands don’t play terribly long - and don’t assume that just because they are a big name they are playing later. That is not necessarily the case. The only way you will know who is playing when and on what stage is by looking at the large board when you get there. Take a piece of paper and something to write with so that you don’t have to keep going back to the board - it’s a hassle because of the crowds.

Where really, really comfortable shoes. It’s a long day and you will be walking and standing for most of it. Make sure you take sunscreen too. They won’t let you take in water with the caps on, so you need to be prepared to be spending money. Don’t scrimp on water during the day!

For Warped Tour in Denver you kind of need to be prepared for all kinds of weather - you know how it is if you live here. It can be blazing hot, then a storm pops up, rains, and it gets quite chilly. That happened last year. In fact, due to the lightning, they forced some of us out of the venue and said we could come back once the lightning stopped. Not sure what the point of that was since we all just huddled up next to the building right outside the gates. And I don’t think they even made everyone leave - just those of us taking a break laying on the grassy area!

The whole point, in my opinion of Warped Tour, is to get to know up and coming bands. So try and get around to as many of those as possible. Sure, some of the bigger bands are great (although I can’t say I’m terribly thrilled about the ones coming to Denver - would really have loved it if Rise Against would have come) but discovering new bands is even better.

See you there! Look for the lady with the tree tattoo on her back.
