Dylan and I are sitting here tonight to do another installment of bands performing at Warped Tour in Denver
this year. Once again, we have randomly picked some bands from the list, are listening to their music and deciding if we will put them on our list to see or say pass.
The first band we picked we just got from the top of the list. The name of the band is 1997. On a couple of songs I liked the start and then….they started singing. They aren’t bad singers at all. I guess I just don’t like the style of music, and like I’ve mentioned before in another post, I’m not a big fan of female singers. Dylan’s reaction was, “Eh….”.
Moving on. Next we have picked Charlotte Sometimes. I guess I should have known by the name but it didn’t occur to me this was a female. (Good Charlotte isn’t after all. And I want to go on record I can’t stand Good Charlotte).
Our first reaction is that her music is catchy and we kind of like it. But what we are kind of not liking is that she seems to be trying to sound like Amy Winehouse. Dylan and I both said it at the same time. Amy Winehouse bugs me.
Really quick I will name a couple of bands that we listened to one song on their site and couldn’t continue:
Pierce the Veil - maybe if I were in a different mood then wanting to slit my wrist. I only listened to the beginning of one song though.
Norma Jean - if you like the growling type of music then you will love them. (Josh, if you read this - you’ll love them. Put them on your list).
Protest the Hero - I like some screamo type stuff but I only listened to one song and wasn’t feeling it.
Mayday Parade - Panic at the Disco wanna be’s. I’m not a Panic at the Disco fan, so not into this. Check them out if you like Panic. Carbon copies really.
Last band we will review this round is Phathom. They have a very different sound - some of the songs really vary. But both Dylan and I really like them. They will definitely be making our list. We were getting a little worried tonight that we weren’t going to hear anyone that we really liked, but we saved the best for last.
If you haven’t checked out our first review of bands, go check it out. And if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet - shame on you. Get them here.
