You would think that getting carded when you are 40 would be the biggest complement ever - and it usually is. I hadn’t been carded in a few months and I was beginning to get bummed about it. But the other day there was a whole new twist….
I think any woman older than, let’s say, 29, likes to get carded. I’ll have to admit, I am surprised it’s still happening to me - at 40. I know I don’t look 40, but even on my best hair day I certainly don’t think I look less that 21.
My biggest issue in the last year and a half has been my hair color change and the fact that I haven’t gotten my driver’s license changed.
Before - blonde, pre-tattoo

After - black (Halloween thing - don’t ask)
I decided, since I’m only a couple years off from HAVING to do it, that I would just wait. Who in their right mind wants to go spend the day at the DMV to get their picture retaken just because they went from very blonde, to jet black? Not me - unless it became a problem. Well, this past weekend, it may have become a problem. Saturday was Shane’s and my 21st anniversary. No big plans really, so we decided to just have lunch on the rooftop of the Lazy Dog in Boulder. One of my favorite places when the weather is nice.
Shane ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of wine. We were then asked to show our id.
For the first time I had someone ask, how they were supposed to know it was me since my hair color was so different. He asked me to take off my sunglasses, then to smile like on the id. I didn’t even know how I was smiling! Let’s see, it was more of a smirk really. After I told him to look at the nose (mine is a bit big) he finally decided it was me.
Now I’m really trying to figure this out - who would use a fake id that is not just A LOT older than 21, but with a different hair color? I think I’d go a little more subtle if I was trying to pull something off. Maybe then again, the trend now is to go SO BOLD with it that it becomes, well, believable??? I don’t know. All I do know is that when he came back Shane made the comment to him that it was our 21st anniversary - we were old enough to not only be 21, but have a 21 year old (a bit depressing really).
I think he felt bad. I, on the other hand, didn’t feel so bad because we ended up getting a free dessert out of it.
Still debating regarding the DMV. It was a close call, but not close enough to get me to go waste a day - yet.

Getting carded is a sign of youth, especially when it gets questioned. You still look barely 21 to me.
