I recently did something I hadn’t done since high school. I had my portrait taken professionally.
A good friend of mine recently opened up her photography studio here in Longmont - Balsman Photography. The studio is in a cute older house just off main street. They have come up with some great ideas to make their studio unique, and the whole experience of having your picture taken there is something you won’t get anywhere else.
I had been wanting a picture taken of my back tree tattoo that was decent - and so far anything we had taken had not been decent. (No offense sweetie). So after Kim had her grand opening we talked about doing a portrait session and some ideas of what we might do.
I’ll have to admit I was a bit nervous - not sure why. But as soon as we got started, that disappeared. We turned on my favorite music and got going. The fun part was looking to see how the pictures were coming out as we went along. I know that is not something she does with everybody - but we had fun going back and forth, taking a picture and looking at it.
So here is the debut of my tree tattoo -
If it looks familiar to the artwork on the left side of my website there is a reason. She took the photo and did a “charcoal” effect to it to create the artwork. I just thought that was the coolest thing. She did a whole bunch of different ones. The one my son liked the best - go figure - was a plastic wrap effect. He said he liked it because it looked like a chocolate mold and he was hungry. That picture happened to be one she took of me with…..white angel wings on wrapped in a white cloth. Ironic but turned out so beautiful.
We did several types of shots in different settings. Then we wrapped up the session and she went to work over the next few weeks adding some really cool effects to some pictures, touching them up, etc.
I am really still amazed at how they turned out. If I could have her following me around all the time photoshopping me, it would be wonderful! I did make the request for bigger boobs - she did give them t
o me in one picture. Hmmmm……. I would so go and have that done if I had the money.
Anyway, one of the backdrops is this really cool “metal/industrial” set. She’s got a zillion backdrops and props. You have to go look at her website and in the children’s section is a little girl in a fairy outfit looking into a pond. Makes me wish I had a little girl so I could have that photo taken. Maybe I could dress up in that costume and have my picture taken….I might be small, but not that small.
What’s funny, is that the pose we did that I didn’t think I would like ended up having the picture of me that turned out to be my favorite. She focused on what the best part of the photograph was and cropped out the rest.
So I really encourage all you ladies out there to go get your portrait taken - by a real professional - not one of those glamor places in the mall. It will make you feel great. It would make a great gift for your significant other. Of course, if you are anywhere near Longmont, (or in Colorado
) then you have to go see Kim - or if you have a senior, take them to Kim. If Dylan is still short by the time he becomes a Senior, I wonder if she can make him taller in his Senior Portraits?????
