Shane, Dylan and I will be participating in this years Tour de Cure 2008. This event is to raise money and awareness regarding diabetes. Here in Longmont it will be taking place August 23.
I think most people these days know someone who is affected by the disease. If you don’t, consider yourself lucky.
My grandmother had diabetes, and my mother has to watch her diet to keep things in check. But the person we know who is most affected is our friend Bob, the husband of Kim, who shot all the incredible pictures of me.
Bob has been a type 1 diabetic since 1991, at the age of 23. Having type 1 diabetes means his body no longer produces its own insulin and cannot regulate his blood sugar. To keep himself healthy, he must check his blood sugar and take injections several times a day on top of being careful with his diet and exercise. Without his careful attention to his diabetes, he would quickly end up in the hospital and also face long term complications like blindness, heart disease, and organ and nerve damage. There is no cure for this deadly disease that affects roughly 20 million Americans - 7% of the population. Imagine if your new little baby had to have daily injections just to stay alive. This disease is not limited to adults. It affects millions of children as well.
We will be riding for Bob’s Team - Bob’s Biker’s. If you want to donate to a great cause and sponsor me and help my little donation bar go up head over to my page. All donations are tax deductible. Better yet, if you think this sounds like fun and want to participate, join our team.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for lending your support for this very important cause. Bob and I sincerely appreciate your efforts on behalf of the millions of children and adults afflicted with diabetes. We are so glad to have you on our team!
