Channel 93.3’s Big Gig Concert here in Denver is right around the corner.  Part of this concert is the Locals Only Stage that happens earlier in the day.

This year there are 5 bands playing on the Locals Only Stage and they were picked by 93.3 listeners who participate in the music surveys.  (I do - hope you do too).

Anyway, to make things easy for you if you are unfamiliar with these bands and want to take a listen to them ahead of time, I’ve put some information together for you here.  Go take a listen.  Hopefully you’ll get there early to see them live.

First off is Life In Electric.  Not only does the lead singer look like Davey Havoc from AFI, but he also sounds like him.  It’s amazing.  They have a really good sound.  I love AFI, so any band that sounds like them and is decent gets a thumbs up.

They will be playing this weekend at the Bluebird with Miser.  If we weren’t busy I’d go check it out.  Tickets are cheap.  You can get them here.

Next is The Heyday.  They have a really nice sound.  Their influences they list on their myspace are….quite a range.  I’ll forgive them that they have Maria Carey listed as one….

I went to look at where else they might be playing and they are playing some free gigs around the area after the Big Gig - so if you like them, go check out where else you can hear them.  One, that I’m very happy about is the Tour de Cure here in Longmont!  We happen to be participating in this bike ride to raise awareness and funds to fight Diabetes.  If you are interested in contributing but don’t want to ride, feel free to make a tax deductible donation to The American Diabetes Association by supporting me and the team I’m on - Bob’s Bikers.  At the same time you can come out and enjoy some free music.

Rough Draft is the next local band on the list.  Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of Christian Rock.  They have a good sound, I just don’t like such warm, fuzzy, well…Christian lyrics in the music I listen to.  I understand they have a good message they are trying to send out and the postitive feel, etc., but it’s not my cup of tea.  But like I said, they have a great sound.

For Love of Ivy is another local band playing at the Big Gig.  They are playing some other shows in Denver, so if you like them, check them out at another venue.  Tickets on sale here.  These guys are not bad.  Maybe not as strong as the others - maybe that will be different live.

Last on the list for the Locals Only Stage is Saving Verona.  They also have a couple of other gigs they are playing the area you can check out on their myspace page.  Like the last band, maybe not as strong as the others vocally but still a good sound and I think should be pretty good live.

Now there is one more local band playing, but they will be playing on the big stage inside the venue.  Skyfox has the honor that Singlefile got last year.  That can be a pretty big stage to fill.  But I think they can do it.  The song Church made me laugh out loud.  They do sound a little like Blink-182.  I wanted to put a picture up here but couldn’t find one!

These guys have a great sound and it seems for now, the only place you’ll be able to see them is the Big Gig.

Flotbots are the secret band playing by the way.  If you don’t have your tickets yet, get them now, HERE!
