Whew!
Well I needed a day to recover, not to mention we’ve been busy. But I thought I’d give my two cen
ts as to how Warped Tour went this year here in Denver.
First off - it was hot! As usual, the lines to get in were really long and there were a lot of people who paid for parking, not realizing it’s free - well, not really. You paid for it as part of your ticket price.
Once we got in, we hit the board to see who was playing when. We did something very clever this year. We took a picture with our digital camera of the board. The
n we were able to zoom in on specific stages, times, etc. It was perfect!
The first band we saw was The Bronx which we liked, then Story of the Year, which was also pretty good. Next we hit The Academy Is…. and after that, I think the band we enjoyed the most - The Briggs. One thing about the smaller
stages is that the crowd is smaller and there seems to be more interaction between the crowd and the band. You can really get up close. These guys had great energy and their sound was really good.
While we sat on the grass eating we caught The Color Fred. They weren’t bad, but I also wasn’t really focused on listening either.
My nieces wanted to see Gym Class Heros - we stayed for a minute. Not my thing - instead, we went over and waited for Againt Me! which we liked. After that we caught another small band on the tiny stage - The Audition. Another surprise. Try to check them out - they were pretty good.
Then on to Pennywise. To me, this is what Warped Tour is about. They are the band I enjoyed most out of all on the main stage. And in a way, they seemed like the one of the few punk bands there.
As we walked over to see Angels and Airwaves we did stop to take a look at Jeffree Starr - just to get a picture! Angels and Airwaves was a huge disappointment. The sound
was bad for one thing - and they seemed to have no energy. I’m not a huge fan in the first place - just know the radio songs, but I do love Blink 82 and I guess I was hoping I’d really like Angels and Airwaves live, but that was not the case.
Pretty much after that, we were ready to head out. It had been a very long day.
We did stop on the way to the parking lot to catch Katy Perry - bad sound as well and not such a great voice live.
There are always so many bands and no way to see everyone on the list of bands you would like to see. But we did pretty good. Overall a good day. Long, but good!
